Caldwells named UK E-Business of the Year

Warrington-based Caldwells Group has been named E-Business of the Year at the national E-Commerce Awards 2003.  The awards are run by UK online for business, a partnership between industry and government, which promotes the use of information and communications technologies to small companies, and by InterForum, a not for profit membership organisation that helps British businesses to trade electronically.

Caldwells, who were named Northwest E-Business of the Year by the organisation earlier this year, picked up the prize of £8,000 at the awards ceremony held at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 8th October.  Caldwells beat 1,580 other businesses in the UK to win the award.

Caldwells Group is the UK’s most innovative provider in the supply of engineering stores management for clients in the manufacturing sector.  With its origins in the manufacture of tools and engineering supplies, Caldwells’ current portfolio ranges from state-of-the-art automated tool dispensers to online store management solutions.  The company’s client list continues to grow and includes multinational organisations such as Pilkington, Siemens, ConvaTec, Rhodia and Honeywell.  The company was recently named Business of the Year as well as being awarded for its Innovation and Research at the Warrington Business Awards.

Stephen Timms, Minister of State for Energy, E-Commerce and Postal Services presented Caldwells Group Chief Executive Ben Caldwell with the award and said: “Today’s winners are an outstanding showcase of the UK’s e-business capabilities.  All of the participating organisations are excellent examples of why the UK is amongst the best in the world.  But they are also role models who can encourage other businesses, local communities and professional bodies to take up the challenge and reap the benefits that e-business has to offer.”

Ben Caldwell said: “We are delighted to have been recognised in The E-Commerce Awards. It is a tremendous recognition of the work of our team in developing a business that puts the customer first. Our dynamic and forward thinking approach has led to great success for us, and we are honoured to have received such a prestigious award as this. We have great plans for the future, and we will ensure that this award continues to represent the highest levels of business achievement for everyone involved.”
